ultimate 145, looking for input on rgging

would like to add some dry storage, and a small cooler. Flyfish, so want to avoid snags. seems llike a good bit of space in bow. also looking for ideas for stripping flyline, maybe just a towel over the legs??? stripping basket doesn’t seem practical, Thanks in advance

My favorite dry storage is an inexpensive dry bag. I have a small one for electronics and a big one for safety gear. Cooler choices are endless. I’ve got 3 or 4 softsided coolers and all work well. The best is the ICEMULE. The Polar Bear is a close second. Either will keep ice and drinks for a full day on the water.

If youre fly fishing from a U14.5, you should be standing up.

Thanks,
thinking about cooler behind the seat, and it sounds like Dry bag or box in bow. think I’m going to place a rod holder on stern as carrying my second rod amidships seems to be in the way of casting. As for the standing, haven’t really tried yet, fished her for first time yesterday. look forward to that as line management might be better/easier. appreciate it.

You should definitely be standing. The 14.5 is stable as the day is long. I keep a soft sides cooler behind my seat and it never gets in the way. I use waterproof boxes instead of the bags. I like being able to see what I’m reaching for instead of digging around in the bags. Standing in the ultimate is easy as pie, many times I find myself paddling standing up moving from spot to spot. Even through boat wakes I have never felt uncomfortable. I’m sure my time will come when I fall out and I’m singing a different song.

When i had my ultimate and fly fished out of it I used a waist strip basket, that way I could pole or paddle standing up. I would strip my line into the basket put my fly rod on top of that. Spot a fish stick the stake out pole in the mud (have it tethered to you anchor trolley) grab fly rod at waist and cast. With a little practice you are shooting line in seconds.
