Anybody ever tried putting an upmbrella on the kayak for some shade?
I was thinking of putting a vertical rod holder in just behind the cockpit of my kayak. Then get a small foldable umbrella to drop in it when the sun gets hot. I guess you could still fish and paddle without it getting in the way.
Just wondering if anyone eles has tried somtething like this.
I dont know if you want to do that, either a breeze will lift it right out of the rod holder or (if you have it tied down) you would be adding a sail which would be pain to keep you “tracking” in a straight line. This is assuming that youd be fishing near the coast where ther is a constant breeze. Get a wide brim hat.

Yea, I already thought about that stuff too. Thats why I wanted to know if anyone else has a=ever tried it first.
As info, Hobie has just created their own version of the kayak umbrella for their Mirage line of kayaks. I haven’t tried it. It’s a little pricey, and seems to me in the wrong winds it would be a lot like a sail without a keel. It’s on page 8 of their new catalog: http://www.hobiecat.com/media/pdf/eKayakCatalog2006.pdf
How 'bout a nice pink parasol?
Thats why they call it fishing, not catching
