I just got my foot fixed and am planning on still making a trip to charleston on Saturday to fish. I have a Lowe Olympic 18’ jon boat. I am wanting to go to the jetty if the wind and waves will cooperate otherwise I am sticking to either IOP or Wando. Are the wind and waves going to be to rough for a jon out there? Someone please explain to me how to read wind and waves as it pertains to the charleston harbor.
it blows north/ne 6 days a week… north/ne is the devil
i would expect it to be great the coldest rainiest day of the week… that seems to the be winter/early spring trend.
but really anything north/north east is a crap day in this area… that extends all the way up to Georgetown and probably further north… it can be a 1-3ft day @ a nice 7=10sec but the north wind turns it into a washing machine…
thats why most any day you see a consistent south/south west wind even with a sub par wave time/height you see a good bit of reports.
but ideally the things to look for would be.
south/south west wind 1-10mph
1-2ft seas @7-10sec
those conditions usually lead to the jetty’s being a lake… throw a wrench in that in most any slot and well it can all go to hell in a hand basket
