Ok so by far this seems to be the most popular ‘line to line’ knot. My question is (when tying braid to fluor/mono) when you tie yours do you usually tie the braid to the flo/mono first or the flo/mono to the braid. Or does this even matter for the most part? I am going to start trying the flo/mono leader style for my top water fishing and wanted to hear some opinions. Lemme hear it!

I always wrap the braid first, and I usually double it. It is harder to manage in the wind and rocking boat than flouro or mono, so I like to get it under control first. I doubt it really matters either way.
If it’s rough, windy or dark I usually just tie a double surgeons knot or spider hitch instead. Both of those I can tie in the dark and they seem just as strong. I can’t tie a uni knot in the dark.

I use an Albright. But then again, what do I know?

I with you on that one DF. I like the Albright mainly cause it slips through the rod eyelets so easily when you reel it in.

Thanks for saying that…My next question goes with that…are the albright or other line to line knots as bulky as the uni? I tied one and did some practice casts and noticed it kinda hang up in the last eye giving it a little snap feeling…can’t imagine that would be good for the knot:smiley:
Also, how long do you typically run the leader? 2 ft? 6 ft?

I like Larry’s response about making the leader a little longer than the target fish. Me, I use braids for almost all presentations and adjust the leader according to the type of fish, presentation, and rod I’m using. With a moving top or mid water level bait like a topwater or spinnerbait, I want some stretch so I’ll go with a longer piece of mono, maybe 4-6ft. With a bottom bounced jig I’m more likely to use 2’ of flouro.
Uni/Uni has been my go to knot but I’ve been experimenting lately with Alberto, Triple Surgeon, etc.
