I thought I would share this. this is a picture of Daddy when he was around 35-36 years old aboard his first self owned shrimp trawler “The Robby D” he had run trawlers for others for years, worked with his daddy then started running them on his own in late teens, before going in the navy…returned and took to shrimping once again. (grainy…a picture of a picture)
Hugo…took the Robby D and placed it on the shore in pieces…but left daddys coffee pot sitting on the stove on it…told him he made some strong coffee:smiley:. It was hauled off with many other trawlers…a total loss. still to this day wish i had taken that coffee pot but was too busy crying for him and mom as well as all the others whose lives were in shambles I guess.
Anniversary of Hugo this weekend. It may have broken his heart in the loss of his boat, home and so much more…but it didnt break his spirit.
Daddy was laughing at us teasing him about the coffee pot. He would just throw loose coffee in the water on the stove…bring it to a boil and “shut it off” …let the grounds settle to the bottom and then drink it like that:dizzy_face:…believe me…it was a real “eye opener”
A anchor that my daddy caught in his shrimp nets a long time ago.
I remember going on the IOP after Hugo and seeing boats everywhere. It was like it was a war zone! Happy Birthday to the Captain and I tip my hat for all the years he has worked hard at doing what he loves. May he have many more!
Happy Birthday to your Dad. 75 and still on the water. I know he enjoys ,being on the water .
My Dad put in 30 years in the Marines Corps . We moved to Port Royal S C and Dad started making crab traps his second year . He loved the water like your Dad and was crabbing till the he died , He was just 64 when he passed .
Nice post, Penny, always enjoy them.
Happy Birthday to your Dad!
I had a scope something like that back in the USAF; it had a front hood on it to reduce glare. It was WWII vintage; older than me, even.
Just recognized his RayBans…I had those ,too, USAF issue.

His had a little hood over it too. There’s a man who. Lives in the village that they call “the hat”. He always cut the brim off of his hat so he could get closer to the lens/scope…thereby getting the name “hat” . I have his old fish marker as he called it. One of those big boxs hung on the cabin wall and did a etching of fish on bottom. Still has a big roll of used marked paper In it…and the compass that was in the wheelhouse too.
Haha…now that’s funny…but I’m sure he could. Tough old guy for sure ;). From what I hear he was a wild one “in the day”.
Went crabbing with him yesterday…what a time!! Wnd and waves bout beat us to death, but we got it done with a lot of shared laughs while doing it.
