Unusual Bottom Catches

We caught 3 sandtiles in 160 feet of water. Maybe it’s normal but only tile fish we have ever gotten have been much deeper. Also we caught a blackfin snapper…? I argued my arse off with my group that it wasn’t an ARS and tossed it in the box. All I know is that an ARS doesn’t have a black spot on its pectoral find and a yellow edged tail. Turns out I was right. We found it to be said fish on the DNR website. Anyone else ever gotten one of these fish…?

Yes - I used to fish some spots that had blackfin snapper. Those places are in an MPA now. Blackfins don’t eat as good as ARS. Sandtiles are in 60- 200’ . They can bite the crap out of you!

I once ate an SC record sand tile

I ate the crap out of the sandtile tonight and it was delish. I gave the snapper to another fisherman. Filets looked great.

Good catch on the blackfin snapper! I Filleted a 29 pound (world record) yellow eye or silk snapper. Only to notice a few days later in pictures that it was a yellow eye!

We are pretty certain we fileted the state record Queen trigger a few weeks back.

I did that once with a king:face_with_head_bandage:

Never caught a blackfin snapper though :sunglasses:
