Up coming election

Who would be the outdoorsman/fishermans best choice for Gov.? Nookie re-appointed Cupka and failed to recommend Mark Brown as her preferred choice for the council seat. What are your ideas and what are our choices?

You might think she’s bad for fishing, but have you seen our state’s unemployment numbers?

I’m perfectly happy with our governor.

I personally don’t care for her very much but its hard not to like was she is doing for our state like bringing manufacturing back to this state and giving good tax breaks and credits as incentives for larger corporations to come here. Look at whats gone on lately. Boeing, Bridgestone in North Augusta, Continental tire in Sumter, BMW just announce a $1 billion expansion, Toray in Spartenburg…another $1 billion manufacturing plant, Keer cotton yarn in Kershaw, $500M, American Titanium in Laurens ($500m), First Quality Tissue in Anderson $300M expansion, Bass Pro and Cabelas…I could go on and on.

Reel Tight - Boeing was a done deal well before Nikki came into office. And I seriously doubt Nikki versus another person in the Gov’s office made much difference in the others you cite. Pre-existing laws, policies, etc. are responsible, she just rode in and took credit (like most politicians).

And why don’t you ask Haddrell’s and the long-time + locally-owned shops how they feel about Bass Pro / Cabelas? I have to agree with Mark Sanford on that one.

I for one still remember Nikki selling SC up the river with the “Port of Savannah affair.” In exchange for Nathan Deal and his cronies setting up fat fundraisers for Nikki…

Haley has definitely made mistakes. Natureboy. I guess the question to ask is, are any of the candidates pro-fishing? I bet you would probably get the same result with Sheheen and you also get pro-union, pro-Obama care and a bunch of other BS along with it.

Native…I don’t disagree with you completely. That’s why I have mixed emotions about her. And yes…Boeing was a done deal before her time but the others are new to her and she’s helped bring them in…creating a ton of jobs. I also agree with you what you are hinting at about BPS and Cabelas…I get lost just walking around those places and prefer to do business locally and feel shops like Haddrell’s will always have their place in the market. Unfortunately…it’s not so cut and dry, or black and white. I dislike most politicians just as much as the next guy but if you look at our states economy, unemployment rate and new business…those numbers in and of itself are hard to argue with.

Cheap, non union labor is whats bringing jobs.

I voted for her last time - and I just wanted to know what everyone thought. There was a time when the outdoorsmen including fishermen had some good friends in Columbia - but today it seems that its all about money - and political favors . Probably wont matter. A primary against a sitting governor is all uphill for the challengers. Nookie has done a good job of trashing Sheehen and will probably prevail. We need another Rembert Dennis.
