Up State suggestions & Saluda near Columbia

I was out at the Saluda near Columbia this past weekend with some buddies… Dam was generating power… to high to fish and definitely no wading!

My Buddies and I decided to plan a trip to the up state for a real fly fishing weekend. We are planning on camping, rustic OK, if not preferred.

Only other must haves are: (1) Wild Trout. It’s been too long since I’ve gone for wilds (7 years ago, before I turned in my Yankee Card, LOL). Stocked trout are OK, but really want wild. (2) We would like to stay in SC, (NC has some steep out of state fees) and about 4 hours +/- travel time would be ideal. (3) We are planning on going in March or April (near end of March or early April. (4) No Crowds. We would be willing to hike a mile or two to get away from crowds.

So far we are considering:

Caesars Head area
Table Rock area
and Jones Gap area

If anyone has fished these areas or can recommend someplace else I would really appreciate it. If you do not want to share info publicly just send me a private message. Just send me a message here that you PM’d me.

thanks!

You might want to investigate Devil’s Fork state park. You will be close to some good back country fishing. The Whitewater and Thompson rivers are close and you will probably have the place to yourselves.

thanks!

will check into both of those options!

will post where we decide to go.
