Has anybody heard anything new on the two missing Firefighters out of Florida?
Just read about a life jacket being spotted off of Tybee…they’re enroute.
Also reports of potential body and jacket in water off of Hatteras, NC

Information is being shared and jumbled and it’s hard to tell the facts from rumor at this point. From here on out I’ll only be updating based on actual confirmations. I will update as soon as I know more fact. I’ve gotten my hopes up, and a lot of others and that’s not what I intended. When I know hard facts I will update you all. Thanks you for following. As you can see I’m passionate about this. These guys were doing exactly what I love to do.
UPDATE************4:09pm
Possible life raft found 75 miles east of Brunswick. WE DO NOT KNOW IF THEY HAD ONE ONBOARD.
UPDATE************3:54pm
The life jacket is NOT believed to be from their boat although there are still misconceptions about the color of vests they had on board. The found life jacket colors weren’t exactly the same, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t have two different vests onboard. There is a report that Freeman Boatworks has found some of their fishing gear. That is also unconfirmed. Will continue to update. The Coast Guard is sending assets to the area to conduct a more thorough search of that are.
The static is so bad it’s difficult to hear the radio. Unconfirmed person. Confirmed life vest.
Update to anyone following the story. They have found a person(UNCONFIRMED) in a life jacket (CONFIRMED) 44 miles off Tybee Island. The markings on the life jacket line up with the gear they would have had. The Coast Guard is using the word ‘person’ rather than ‘body’ so it’s possible that he is still alive. Will update as I hear. The static is so bad it’s difficult to hear the radio. Unconfirmed person. Confirmed life vest. Keep praying for a miracle.
Just checked in with the office. Life raft was a false alert. It was actually a Self Locating Datum Marker Buoy, a tool the Coast Guard uses to measure surface currents. CG will always use the term person. Their approach is to search for survivors. CG strays away from the term “body recovery”. That’s typically left to the local FD dive teams, who are equipped for that operation.
Still praying. I am absolutely proud of the community response in this case. Please be safe out there and take an EPIRB with you. God bless!

I think we are going to look into a water activated EPIRB as well as one in the ditch bag…

This also reminds me of this local team (a childhood friend Nick Christ and Ben Rogers @ Holy City Boatworks who painted my boat!) that entered a USCG challenge.

The idea is awesome, and they move on to presenting it in Delaware (IIRC) next month! Will be a cheap and easy to use life saving tool that should be on every boat.
