I have a 19’ Sea Pro. The helm (Teleflex NFB unit) started to get stiff on the extreme left or right turn positions, so I have decided to replace it. I am sure it is not the cable because once I pulled it from the helm mechanism, the cable and motor moves very freely. I am leaning toward upgrading to tilt steering and was wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether it is useful and worth it on a center console type boat. I usually stand up while navigationg and was thinking if the wheel were more vertical it would be easier to steer. Getting the tilt only adds about $100 to the installation. Any opinions?
I think you will be glad you upgraded to tilt after you get it installed. It will be more comfortable both sitting and standing as you will be able to get it set where you like it. I think it’s worth the extra $100. It was a $300+ upgrade on my current build.
