Upgraded "Arts & Crafts" Desk

Much like shadowgrass’ wife, mine refers to fly-tying as “Arts & Crafts” for men. Thanks to the “man knitting lair” thread, I got some good ideas to upgrade my desk.

Since it was a schitty day and couldn’t fish, I spent the day fixing her up. Needless to say, I’m very pleased with the “new” desk.

Biggest change was putting corkboard all along the back of the desk. This allows me to tack things up and get rid of that clunky, plastic, three-drawer deal. I also had an old drawer organizer that I tacked to the pull out shelf to hold all my tools. Now I’ve got plenty of room to move, can see all my materials at once, and it just looks a hell of a lot neater.

Thanks again for all the ideas guys.

thats awesome

da corks da ticket aint it! nice work

Looks great! Highly functional. One thing that you may want to consider is to add a couple of pieces of a flat poster board which can serve as a great back drop when your actually tying. I use a light color for darker flies and a darker background for lighter patterns. The contrast really helps you see what you’re doing. I’ve also used a cheap piece of fabric for the same application and both work equally well.
