The wife found out she had the day off wednesday so I figured we would make a quick trip on the ashley. The ramp off of ladson is only 2 miles from us. We launched around 10am on the last half of the falling tide. Spent some time cruising down the river for a bit. Anchored along the bank as the tide was slowing. Tossed out some mud minnows on the bank on carolina rigs. About 20 minutes later the drag starts screaming on my conflict 2500. My wife looks shocked and fumbles getting the rod out of the holder. After a brief fight she reels in a nasty bowfin. We had to wait another 30 minutes before the next hit at low tide. One rod goes down and my wife starts reeling. I could tell this fish was heavier. She fought it to the boat and we netted a nice blue cat. 10 minutes later and we are repeating the process. 2 hours into the rising tide we started cleaning up to head out. I hear the rear rod going off in the back and noticed my st croix tide master bent in half while my wife looks like she was going overboard. I knew this fish wasn’t a cat by the way it was running. It made a few runs as my wife struggled to boat it. After it surfaced in the muddy water I realized it was a decent sized tagged red. It measured 25 inches, my wifes personal best. We called it a day, not bad for 4 hours on the river.
25 inch tagged red
17 inch cat
22 inch cat
23 inch bowfin

Nice job al8995! I am pretty close to that ramp too, usually I fish the Edisto or lake Moultrie, but I might have to give the Ashley a try. Thanks for sharing your report… tight lines…
There is something magical about a Beautiful lady holding up a fish that She caught.Just like a kid holding a fish with a big smile.WAOMC had a kids tournament and the joy on the kids faces was priceless.
That is awesome. We put in at that landing a lot but so far no luck with catching fish. Last time we used chicken livers on the bottom looking for catfish. You mentioned mud minnows…where do you get those? I am so tired of getting skunked! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cast net for finger mullet and shrimp at creek mouths and along mud banks near low tide… plenty of bait up there. If you get a big mullet, put the head on a big rod - there are some big cats swimming around.
