I’ll be by Jones Gap St park this weekend. Never been up there before. Anyone know how the river level is? I’m assuming low and warm. Any recommendations on where to start? Above the park or below? I’ll only get about a hour each morning to fish.
Below the park definitely. Park behind the f-mart walk across the street and down the lil path into the woods stream right there and plenty of trout. Also drive down the highway and u will little signs on the left side of the road. There are signs telling u it is alright to park along the road and fish. Was there bout 5 weeks and and caught about 50 trout all day. All browns and bows from 10-16 inches
Water inside the the park is tight and the fly only section can only be fished Monday Wednesday and saturdaynbut I’ve fished it 3 or 4 times and haven’t caught anything. But always do good below the park
Thank you
No problem. I’m headed up there on the 13th for the day Good luck
How far of a drive is this from Charleston ??
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Takes new like 3 hours. It’s like 230 miles each way
I got ya, might as well drive to Asheville, hit the Davidson, and see the family … sure it’s just as pretty though

I’d check on what rivers are fishable right now. I was at Davidson Outfitters last Saturday, and he was telling a man all the fishing was out of season unless he could find some ponds. IDK, since I don’t fish western NC, but I’d check.
I’d head for Rocky Bottom, above Pickens, though you might have some success in the South Saluda above Blythe Shoals, above Cleveland. I don’t think they’ve stocked there in the last month or so, but I’ve found that lessens fishing pressure and I generally do okay. Good luck, and report back.
I was up there fishing the south and middle Saluda a few weeks ago and it was fine, all the thunderstorms helped a bit. But yea it’s actually the same amount of time to getto the Davidson as it does to get to jones gap.
I’m new here, but this is in my back yard and wish I’d seen it earlier. SCDNR posts their stocking for the week - usually on Fri. and I’ve been surprised to see them still stocking as it’s been SO hot. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/fish/stocking/results.html Last report where I saw them stock the Saluda was about 2 weeks ago. I’ve fished across from Fmart but there are just a few places to get in - I much prefer going on north up Hwy. 276 and fishing on the left before Hwy. 11 and 276 split. They put in some nice rock raps and I think the fishing is better. I used to fish there a lot as a kid 40 years ago and went back this Nov. and was hooked again. I don’t fly fish but I do see others but I still think it’s tight. I’ve never fished in NC but can see that their rivers are much wider and would be better to fly fish. The word I’ve heard from fellow anglers on the river is that Cherokee stocks each and every week and that it is great. I’m going to try and post a picture of the big one I got out of the Saluda - pretty sure it was a stocked breeder, but I was smiling just the same!(I used it as my avatar)
Not much to report but rain and muddy water. Checked out a few spots on Fri. that looked promising. Then the thunderstorms rolled in. The river jumped 6-7 inches overnight. Sunday would have been the day but ended up putting in more QT with the wife for future fishing expeditions.
Thanks for all the responses. It is a beautiful area.
I did managed to catch a few bass in a pond near the cabin in the rain on Sat pm.
