Had a great day on the water yesterday. Ended up with 6 reds on topwater, which in itself a good day! Lots of schools moving in large groups. After catching one, they’d leave and you’d find them again down a ways. As the sun was setting, hooked up on 28.5" on my faithful topwater plug. Throwing my next cast, I looked away for a second and red hit it so so hard, the drag never pulled out on my Stradic (possibly from the line being tight from the previous fish?) and it snapped the line stealing the lure. Devastating, but hopeful it will fall out and leave the fish in good condition. At the end of the day the count was 16 reds (4 big tags over 27" one was already tagged), a couple nice flounder and a bunch of breeder trout. All let go. All reds and flounder tagged for reports again.

Sidebar: If you do catch a tagged fish, please measure it, take a picture of the tag, and let it go with the tag. So many reports I receive come back with the tag being kept by the angler… don’t quite get that?

Nice report, congrats, i would take 1 fish on topwater over 6 on a cork!

drterry, thanks! I seldom use cut or live bait, unless maybe going for sheeps, or bull reds. Topwater is the most exciting fishing, rivals even the sound of the clicker screaming while trolling offshore. The stalking wake and the blow up, hell even when they miss, makes it worthwhile!
