upper wando 11/14/13

Got out around noon for dead low beginning of incoming tide. water was really clear. stood up and paddled along the shore line saw lots of mullet on the bottom. lots of reds in doubles and big schools of 50-60 fish. they were pushing bait along the shoreline. first time I got to sight fish for them. what a rush! got 10-12 reds mostly over slot on gold flake Doa shrimp. what a day! can’t wait to do it again. catch um up…Mike

That’s awesome…and a great report.
I’m thinking of replacing my old Hobie Quest, and wanted to go to
something I can safely stand up in. Can you tell me what kayak you are
using ? I’ve only caught one red by sightcasting to a tailer, and it was, as you
said, a rush. Thanks for the report and advice.

used to fish out of a cheap sit in kayak until I fell out one day luckily I had the hand pump with me. I now have a Malibu stealth 12. Great for what I need it for. really stable and has a well for me to keep my live bait. Run you about $1,000. Talk to Dave he’s a dealer for malibu I’m sure he can chime in and give his info. Good luck!

I also have a malibu stealth 12 and for what you want you can’t beat it. Its also the only model that I know of that allows a fish finder to be mounted with the transducer underneath giving you the most accurate info. Its worth the money. I recommend the spider angler seat as well. I couldn’t enjoy another kayak as much (maybe a hobie) because I’m so used to my live well and compartments. I have no problem standing up and throwing a 6 ft cast net.

Thanks for that info guys…I’ll have to check one out.

I have a Wilderness Tarpon 140. I mounted a fishfinder at the end of the right foot well. It works great. I have found that I mostly use it for a depth finder. When fishing in the shallows (< 3ft). It will only indicate what is exactly under your boat. Using the depth indication will help to find the pockets.

Is the Tarpon stable enough to stand up and cast / fish ?
