Caught this guy yesterday afternoon about a quarter mile from the Paradise Island landing on a mud minnow. My wife and I took the kayaks out, anchored up at the mouth of a creek and tied our yaks together. I tossed the mud minnow out behind the yak toward the mouth of the creek, stuck it in the rod holder, and started working an artificial out the front. Minnow probably hadn’t been in the water 2 minutes before I hear line zipping out. It was a great fighting fish, and the only one I caught. Wife spent the afternoon napping while I fished and loved it. I’m still new to the saltwater thing, and this is probably my biggest red. I think I’ve heard you’re not supposed to “lip” red fish, but in my frantic rush to get a quick picture I instinctively grabbed him by the lip. Will try to remember not to do that in the future.
Great fish and pic. Nothing wrong with that!

looks like youre doing it right! id put that red at least in the high 20" range if not pushing 30. keep it up and welcome to the site.
quote:GREAT looking fish. Lots of red, HUGE tail, I don't see ANY damage due to a hard saltwater life on that fish. If you catch another fish like that, this season... you are living right.

PS Don’t worry about the “Lip” thing.
Nice fish. Excellent job, sir. Most people take issue with “lipping” when you are hanging the fish straight down. Supporting the belly, like you are, puts less stress on the internal organs. There is nothing wrong with what you are doing.

Probably for his thumb’s sake, not the fish…
I bet that was a fight. Nice one!
It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!
Nice fish. I know that spot. My mom’s dock is across the wando from the paradise island boat landing. That’s where I grew up…My buddies dad lives on the creek you were fishing…

PFFFTTTT…yeah right…fish in the upper Wando. It’s not even worth going past the 41 bridge. Too much trash, gators, gar and sewage spills up there. There are more fish in the Ashley than in the Upper Wando. Nice catch, so congrats on that but that fish is way too healthy looking to come from that nasty water up there.
