Upper Wando 5/28

Fished the upper Wando for only my second time. Started slow and had difficulty getting bait with the high tide and generally not knowing any go to bait spots. Didn’t start fishing in earnest until 10 AM. By 12 PM I thought I was going to have to settle for one slot red, a short flounder, and no fish for my friend. First came completing the inshore slam with two small trout, then at the last spot with the ramp in view we landed 12 or so slot reds with a half dozen lost to the dock or pulled hooks in about 30 minutes until our live shrimp ran out…they would not touch peanut menhaden.

Having fished the Stono 95% of the time the last two years I had to change some things up and learn quick, but I now have 3-4 spots I know will do well next time.

Question: Do most people fish the end of the docks in the Wando? In the Stono I catch all my fish along the sides, never on the end.

Docks will work but with small fish.

Try small creeks on the falling tide. Drown some baits and fish with a few floats.

Good luck.

Thanks, I’ll key on some creeks next time. I fished docks today because I knew fish would be there. Almost all fish today were taken with a float.

I fish a 19sv sea pro with a merc. Or a 1820 action craft. Come on up if you see me.

Fished up that way today that wind was killer.

Wind is not a fisher mans friend. It has been blowing.

I fish the docks up river all the time and catch alot of big reds. when the tide is low fish the ends when high fish the sides.

Fishing is the chance to wash one’s soul with pure air.
