URGENT!!!

38’ Fountain w/ 7 people on board are missing! A distress call was transmitted briefly saying they were going down but no further info given. The boat left Charleston from Shem creek but is originally out of Myrtle Beach. The wife states that her husband was going to fish a “wreck” but thats all she knows. The CG needs your help. If you know these folks and knew where they were going contact the CG or me ASAP. If you saw a 38’ fountain offshore today please let us know where you saw them. It is a vast ocean out there and any info will help. Your prayers are needed for these 7 souls.

wow… they’re already in my prayers tonight.

Did they not have an EPIRB, or any other GPS locating device on board?

My prayers are with them and their families, keep us updated.

Found!!! 20 miles off all 7 alive!!! 2 CG Helos plucked them from the water this AM. All in the same family, God is good!!! Another great rescue by our coasties.

Just talked to the crew, the engine compartment starting taking on water for no apparent reason. The are attempting to lift the boat to find out what happened.

Do we know if they had an EPIRB, SPOT, or anything like that? Meaning, how did the Coasties find them?? With the lack of info, it had to have been God for them to have been found like that.

Glad to see they are safe.

They are very lucky to be alive…Geez. Don’t know how you own a 37’ fountain and can’t at least buy a spot device and a handheld VHF.

That’s just plain sad with Kids on board.

With all this missing I’m wondering if it wasn’t a missing plug that lead to them sinking.

Why do they have to be related to me? If I had a 38’ Fountain, I would for sure have every safety options known to man, X’s 2! If you can afford a $1300+ boat payment, then you can afford the $3000 or so to spend on safety equipment…I carried a lot of chit on me along with dry boxes slap full of flares, water, booster boxes, etc…I just didn’t have LR or EPIRB/SPOT

If the boat didn’t go to the bottom, there’s a free boat out there somewhere!

If they didn’t have a VHF, how did they transmit the message Capt. Steve refers to?
In any event, if they didn’t have the proper safety and emergency equipment, I hope the owner takes this as a sign from above to think twice about buying another offshore boat.

This is also why I leave behind a detailed float plan EVERY time my boat leaves the back yard. I make sure that those that go with me have my wife’s contact info so that their significant others can call her for news, and so forth.

This can be chalked up to dumb luck that these people were found, or that someone “up stairs” wants these people alive still for a reason. But to just be noticed from a helicopter during a low light time of day as the CG was just searching an area . . . . . I just hope they learned something from this. I hope that people reading this learn something from it.

Passed the Coasties this am on our way out. The bow of the boat was sticking up out of the water. We stayed well away, but the CG cutter and a couple of other boats were there. At the time, we were not sure if all had been rescued. A mile or so away, we spotted something orange in the water, and veered off course to check it out. It was a balloon.

Glad to hear that all are safe.
