used kayak for sale?

Hi Everybody,
i’m a beginner looking for a well made but entry level ($300 to $400) fishing kayak. preferably with a anchor system and rod holders.

I’ve been looking on craigslist for a few weeks without any luck and didn’t see anything in the CF classifieds so i figured i’d try here. pleased contact me if you have any leads.

thanks

300-400 puts you in the used market. watch Craigslist every day. Not just Charleston, but from Myrtle Beach to St Augustine.
Carry a stack of cash for making negotiations easier.

There are a few models that I wouldn’t buy and a few more that I wouldnt take if someone gave them to me.

pelican? any others i should stay away from? how about the West Marine model? it’s on sale this week…probably for a reason

Got mine used on Craigslist from a guy in Irmo. Perception Search 13 (discontinued model). Bought the yak, aquabound paddle, 6 nice rubber cup scupper plugs, and dry bag for ~$525. I think that was a pretty good buy. I love my Search! It’s worth trying some out, or if nothing else reading some reviews to see what people say about the stability, tracking, how high it sits (dry ride), etc. There is no one size fits all here, so narrow down what you want to get out of it, then find the best boat within your price range. As far as anchor trolley and rod holder, as long as there are some accessible flat mounting areas on the surface of the yak, these can be added after you buy it without spending much $ at all. Plenty of youtube vids on making and operating anchor trolleys. I made mine for ~$30 out of paracord, 2 harken micro blocks, a steel ring, 2 s-biners, and some bungee.

Dicks a some of the other big box sporting goods stores sell Perception yaks. My son has a Caster 12.5 and I was told it was made from the mold of the old Tarpon series. It is a good boat for the money. Pelican, Fields & Stream I am not so impressed with. The material the hull is made out of seems cheaper/thinner.

For that price, keep an eye out for an older tarpon, ride, native, ocean kayak, or the like. For that price, don’t buy a new boat, you will get MUCH more boat and probably a paddle on a used (broken in) boat. On a plus side, you get lots of mojo with a used boat. Speaking of that, if anyone sees my old ride, I need that mojo back!

Got a 14ft heritage fisherman I would let go for $350. Older boat in great shape. Very sleek and easy to paddle.
