Using khale hooks....

Saw Yakman talking about using khale hooks for flounder. I’ve tried khales before, specifically for catfish, and never had a good hookup with them.

Assume I’m using a carolina rig with a 20" leader and a common weight egg sinker, with a common bait— cut mullet, live shrimp, mud minnow, etc…

When you are using a khale hook, is the hook set like a circle hook (ie, apply steady pressure, no “jerk”), or is it more like a j-hook (stout jerk)?

“Sire, it belongs in truth to the Church of God, in whose name I speak, to endure blows and not to inflict them. But it will also please your Majesty to remember that she is an anvil that has worn out many hammers.”…Theodore Beza

When bait fishing, Kahle hooks are all I use. There is no hook-set required. Just reel until you feel weight, then pull steady. I use them under floats, Carolina rigs, and for sheeps. Gamakatsu, Owner, and Matzuo all make premium models. I feel they are easier for clients to set, and they don’t gut-hook nearly as bad as J-hooks.
