Hey everyone. My family and I are coming up to MI Next week for Vaca and
we are wanting to go out a couple times to find some bottom fish to fool
around with live bait, cut bait, and jigging.
I was wanting to find out if there have been any good reports lately for
BSB, Triggers, Pinkies, B-Liners, Scamps, Gags, ANY bottom dwellers that
we could have some fun with and in what general depth to look for them
in? Also, I am wanting to see about going diving while down to see about
getting some table fare for one night. I have still yet to get the
elusive LOBSTER. If anyone would be so kind as to point me in the
general direction as to find one of those on a dive My wife would
greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
You can catch BSB on just about any ledge or piece of live bottom from the beach on out. I would look around the 70-90ft mark for decent fish right now. A lot of the quality fish are moving towards the ledge. I haven’t dove in a few years but most of the lobsters were around the 90+ ft mark.
I’m not much on giving out numbers but you can pick up a Maps Unique chart and identify the large areas of live bottom off of MI. I search for good bottom by putting out a drone spoon on a planer and running a couple of ballyhoo or cigar minnows on top. Adjust your bottom maching accordingly and troll a grid across the live bottom areas. As you mark good bottom, enter it in your GPS. As you pick up kings or whatever else may take your trolling spread, mark that accordingly as well. When you think you’ve marked enough for the day go back with your chicken rigs and fish. With a little patience you can build up a pretty good book of numbers and have some fun doing it. As the summer heats up, I like to fish no shallower than 100ft. If that’s not an option for you, you can still do a pretty good job in 60-80ft.
Good luck brotha.
Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

I will throw you a bone. Troll between map uniques #122 and the Vermillion. You will find more live bottom than you can shake a stick at. Also stop 1 mile short of the Bill Perry (way diferent direction) and troll a couple of miles past it. Lots of stuff near those two areas.

That’s a Pro tip…
I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I think I’m going fishing…!!
Lets see some fish reports this week… I will be down next week…
We are going to give the Bill Perry a shot tomorrow.
not much around Bill Perry. But did see a lot of life at Belkie. Does anyone know if the Parking Lot has been producing fish ?
as of today, the upchurch is holding some monster bass, I had a group of 6 today, they limited out in 45 minutes,Im not sure if its worth a 28 mile run thou
Thanks, We may hit that Friday, as we are taking the Toy Too back down to Charleston.
any kings or big Spanish at the belkie?
