I replaced the in-tank fuel pump in my fishing van last week. It wasn’t my first time with an in-tank fuel pump. But it was a pain in the butt because the tank was full (till is siphoned about 10 gallons out) and I was by myself. Not to mention, that after getting it installed, I find out that I have to order another freaking wiring harness. Anyway after losing millions (maybe trillions) of brain cells, I got it fixed. My question is that I can hear the pump just humming away while I’m driving. It sounds ok, but with no radio in the van I can hear it the whole time. Just the steady hum of a small electric motor. Anyone ever have this happen? I couldn’t hear the factory pump, and don’t recall being able to constantly hear a fuel pump. Only when you first turn the key?
Our cabinet shop used to have an early/mid 90’s Ford E250 cargo van with the 300ci 6cyl. It hummed constantly. I always assumed it was the fuel pump, never really found out what it was.
In my old 1990 GMC 1500 (350), I can often hear the fuel pump buzzing if I’m standing outside the truck.
Saying “I am offended” is telling everyone else that you cannot control your own emotions, and thus you need everyone else to do it for you.
Narcosis, I have change a couple out for myself and others. I’ve run into an issue with a couple being more louder than others. I’ve got a Ford Lightning that the rear tank has been louder than the front tank since it was new. At least you know it’s running!
I think its Walbro pumps that are loud. I had a 255LPH pump in my Dodge and it was loud as heck. Walbro makes a lot of the aftermarket pumps and they are very strong runners. I would not worry about it til it quits humming.
