Sorry…I know this is offshore but not getting any response in Fishing discussion. I’m going down in a few weeks to go offshore, and am going to trailer my bay boat down. Any of you regular Venice guys done much inshore? The river will be about a foot high compared to the most ideal level.(4.1’ in NO). Can anyone offer any insite??
So none of you guys that are always posting tuna pics have inshore fished there…?
The inshore fishing is phenomenal! I was there a few summers ago for a bachelor party. The group hired a few guides to take us bowfishing for redfish on air boats at night (not to get off topic, but if anyone ever gets a chance to do this, DO NOT pass it up!). Most of the crew were from around Baton Rouge and were used to freshwater fishing in the swamps and bayous. But, a couple guys brought their bass boats anyhow and during the day with zero local knowledge we caught lots of reds and flounders with an occasional trout and an occasional large mouth bass (also not to get off topic, but there are spots around Venice that range from almost totally fresh to real salty). My point is that the fishing there is THAT good. We didn’t know what we were doing and still caught lots of fish - just dead baits on the bottom near something that looked fishy.
I see where you’re going with the River height, but I’d be inclined not to worry about that too much. There are a million places to go around Venice and I’ve got to think there is always somewhere that will work barring extreme conditions. If you can get away with it, my experience says to definitely show up in Venice with your bay boat.
I haven’t spend much time looking around on it, but I understand that rodnreel.com is the charlestonfishing.com equivalent in Louisiana.
Yeah…I been reading rod and reel, and now the river level looks like it’s going to be perfect. I fish north and east of there a bunch, so I imagine we will find a tight line or two.
Would help you if i could, but if I drive all the way to Venice, I’m going off shore for Tuna, something I can’t catch here. What FollyChad said. Used to go every year when my son lived there and limited out every night bow fishing for Reds.Awesome fishery. I would also imagne most regulars are not checking this site much with the weather as bad as it has been. With Alligator,Dove,Shrimping and deer season, there’s plenty to keep a sportsman busy else were.Good luck!
If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.
I guess im the opposite. After two days of realing in Tuna…a fish I cant stand to freeze, it becomes work for me. This is going to be a laid back vacation, and im wanting to marsh fish also, which is a major relaxation deal for me. The weather is starting to shape up, so Im super pumped.
I’m heading down Thursday, hope the weather lays for the both of us

If you keep tuna cold until you cut it and vacuum seal it it freezes excellent. Keeps for up to a year in a chest type freezer. It should thaw out in sushi condition. Also, don’t put water on it (rinse) until you thaw it out.
I gotta get down to Venice some time. Almost all my tuna experience is in Mexico.
Good luck inshore. Let us know how it goes.

Oh cool! I’ll look for y’all in the bar Friday night and throw down on some buffalo skrimps. I was talking to Billy about a boat yesterday actually, is he coming? I’m not bringing the Seahunter, just fishing with my buddy Will Wall on his contender

Redstripe, I don’t know when you are going down to Venice but the inshore water was really muddy this past weekend. Everyone was having a hard time finding clear water.
I’m like bugcatcher, I love the tunas!
