Venice is Sinking!

I realized I can only pass on the invite to Venice, LA so many times before it’s no longer gonna be extended, so I decided to quit talking about going and throw my hat in the ring this time. Bug Catcher, Mega Bite, Fish Crazy, & myself loaded up for the trek and although we had a last minute cancellation, Augie Dog was more than willing to make the journey to meet us! It looked like the Clampetts go to Venice, but hey…4 guys in a truck…what’d you expect?

We were planning on taking Pepe’s 33 Spectre along for the trip, but upon doing some preventative maintenance the week of, he discovered that he had a cracked exhaust manifold on his F350 which then allowed water to contaminate the crankcase…so we had to make other arrangements and decided we could tough it out:sunglasses:

After the 15 hour trek (and a wonderful visit to Waffle House) we arrived at the new digs only to find there was a pretty wicked list at the stern quarter [:0]

With a sump pump securely in place we accepted the rigors of living on the water and embarked on our first day’s quest for tuna!

We stopped to catch some bait and one can’t help but marvel at America’s industrial might at work…and once we were loaded up I pointed out to the Capt. exactly where all the fish were and we were off!

Capt. Wade of the Mexican Gulf Fishing Company pulled up to the spot once we found clear water and it was game on! Fish after fish

And it’s 500 degrees here…Crazy. Fishing there is off the hook, except that Venice is getting too popular. I may try Port Fouchan next time.

Well done gentlemen.

Awesome trip, even awesomer (yes I know) boat! I want to play like you guys do when I grow up.

Great fishing! Thanks for the Pics

This looks like an awesome trip. how was that lodge you stayed in. could you park your personnel boat in the water on it??

sometimes you gotta give a little to get a little

Congrats on what looked like an awesome trip! That boat is UNBELIEVABLE, and them Freemans are 100% as advertised. Very cool to see Lowcountry-made vessels as the tools of choice in one of the world’s most renowned fisheries.

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

There’s not any fish in Venice…

The lodge itself was pretty nice…the actual sleeping accommodations are bunks and 2 twins but it can sleep 18 (I don’t have that many friends). Maybe not where you’d take your wife for a romantic trip. You could keep your boat right there. That’s where they picked us up for the charter and the fella next door (who also hails from Chas.) kept his boat tied up there the whole time.

Not many places I want to go,…not many things I want to do…,but THIS is one I want to do, and want to go! That might mean 3 trips…1) guys trip, 2)trip taking my trooper daughter, 3) trip taking wife…not necessarily in that order…of course…
