Venice, LA Hunt/Fish Trip

I am interested in maybe doing a combination trip of duck hunting and inshore or offshore fishing in Venice. I was curious if anyone had experience on lodging, time to go, etc. with something like this.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I fished two years ago inshore. Fishing was some of the best I’ve had the pleasure to experience. Stayed at Woodland Plantation www.woodlandplantation.com great accommodations with some of the best food I’ve eaten right there onsite. I would recommend talking with Captain David Iverson of Cajun Country Fishing Guides, 225-774-0986 he is a great fisherman and guide and knows the area well. I am sure he can help you with information on the other components to your trip as well. If you end up at Woodland Plantation, the crab stuffed quail dish is a must. I think I gained about 10 pounds in 4 days down there.

Lookup Venice Marina. They used to have some basic inexpensive cabins there on site. They can also recommend a good local guide.

It has been a few days so I don’t know if you have made a decision but I thought I would give my 2 cents. I went to Venice earlier this year (June) and I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. First, they do have big reds and lots of fish. However, the water is muddy and they primarily fish the bottom. So it is not quite as “sporting” to me as fishing the flats or shallower water. Plus, it just isn’t as pretty as what we have in Charleston. Second, it’s an edgier spot than I thought it would be. The cajuns are nice but, to be frank, they are rough. I’m not a prude but I wouldn’t hang out at the marina bar with my wife or kids. Third, I did not like the hotel we stayed in at all, Cypress Cove. A weird vibe that made me feel like an intruder on their water. Overall, fishing was good (not so much better than a good day in Charleston) but I doubt I go back. For the same money I will go to the keys and tarpon fish or the Bahamas for bones. But, with that said, every angler should probably go there once.

This is your man right here.

The lodge right there at Cypress Cove Marina is only like 100 bucks a night I think.

For offshore, you want any of the guys with the mexican gulf fishing company. www.mgfishing.com

They are all over youtube as well. Excellent captains that stay on the fish.

Met Capt. Kevin Beach this past weekend.

Inshore fishing appeared equally ridiculous. Dudes coming in with loads of spot tails and trout like it was no big deal. There is a very abundant fishery there for sure.

There were hundreds of big catfish attacking our fish carcasses at the cleaning station like piranhas when we threw anything off the table into the water. Couple of them were 50lb class fish!
