Venice, LA INSHORE Charters

I’m headed down to Venice, LA in a few weeks. Already have an offshore trip scheduled but would also like to do an inshore trip. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

What do you want to do inshore, fly, sight, wackemandstackem?

Good question. In response, I’m envisioning huge redfish on every cast, followed by double-digit catches of gator trout…

I would contact David Iverson. Put us on huge redfish for two straight says with 70-100 fish each day on artificials under popping corks. We had fish up to 40lbs on 30lb braid on inshore rods. Really good guy and knows the area well. If he is booked he could probably steer you in the right direction for someone else. http://www.bigwateradventures.com/guides/featured_guides/bigwater_adventures_david-iverson.php#.V165wk1OWM8

Keith Kennedy is another good one and teams up with David a good bit. Same thing lots of huge redfish.

I would also recommend a meal at Woodland Plantation one evening if the restaurant is open. The Crab stuffed quail is off the chain.

Catching huge redfish ever cast isnt a problem. Venice is a great fishery, but a **** hole otherwise. Once you get away from the oil infrastructure, its a beautiful place though. Wading the surf in the chandeleurs catching redfish was one of the better adventures I’ve had down there. We rode 50 miles each way in flats boats to make that trip happen and it was an awesome experience! Saw the biggest school of fish I had ever seen on that trip, easily 5 acres of fish. Whomever you go with, make sure they’re open to what you want to do. There are alot of old salts down there with the do this, my way mentality.

I appreciate the ■■■■■■■■, Andy and OFM. I actually just heard back from Capt. Iverson, and, as expected, he’s booked up. However, I have the other referrals you provided, and Capt. gave me a number as well, so I should be good. Thanks again.

I’m going to emphasize this last point. If you’re big into catch and release, make that clear from the get go. The idea of catch and release/conservation is foreign to some down there.

If you have a big enough livewell, you could always bring back about 5,000 reds and release them around here:smiley:
