For those who have fished out of Venice for yellowfin, how far of a run is it to fish.We are headed there in October and Ive read differing types of trips. some seem to be quick runs to the nearby shrimpers and others run further out. Any info appreciated

It depends on weather you fish the rigs or behind the shrimp boats. Between 20 and 40 miles. In all likelihood you will be on a go fast boat like the drug traffickers use so it will take a fraction of the time it takes here. Most of the run is down the river.
I love the gulf coast, my wife is from there, but if I have a hard on for Tuna I’m going to Oregon inlet…JMO. Their methods bored me worse than trolling here on a bad day
Yes I have been twice with poor results on highly reputable boats.
