VENT: Really? Just walking away from a fire?

Gonna vent here for a second on a completely un-Striper related topic.
I know you guys can relate to seeing this kind of foolishness and unsportsmanlike activity…

While kayak fishing Clouds Creek yesterday we saw a lot of smoke coming from the bank at a popular catfishing hole the locals use. It’s located in or near a beautiful, heavily wooded Game Management area. No one was around so we paddled closer to investigate. It seems some jerk made a campfire (with green wood he had just cut down) and just left it. Now leaving ANY fire unattended is a bad idea, but as windy as it was yesterday, it was an extremely careless thing to do. We got out and saw that it was built in a pile of leaves (!!!) and they left all their trash behind, too. We poured water on it and stirred the coals, shaking our heads thinking about what could have happened.

And people wonder why No Trespassing signs go up all the time and access is taken away.

Same thing happened to me Saturday night in Chapin. I was on the way to my grandpas in Chapin and I was on amicks ferry right befor his house. It was about 5am and I looked up an seen a fire in the edge of the woods I was like ??? I pulled over an it was a pretty good sized camp fire that didn’t look like it was going out anytime soon in the edge of the woods with nothing around it just abunch of leaves an pine straw. I shined my light everywhere and didn’t see any sigh of people. I’m guessing someone was trying to catch the woods on fire. I’m glad I came by at that time cause it was going to turn bad real soon. I went up to the fire department about a half mile up the road and woke them up an showed them where it was an they put it out.

Just doesn’t make any sense. But then again, some people just don’t use or have any common sense.
