Vents

Do I need vents on the console of my bay boat? I have two batteries under the console and it is the access for my gas tank. I have two speakers on the sides of the console and was wondering if this was enough? I keep the hatch open when it is in the garage but keep it closed while on the water. My friend told me I needed the vents so I thought I would get a second opinion. Thanks

Does your gas tank leak, any smell of gas fumes in the console?

If it came like that from the factory, i wouldnt mess with it, unless you have gas fumes smell in there, but then you have a whole different problem. My daddy always told me “if it aint broke dont fix it!”

The batteries might be worth thinking about. When charging, I think they give off hydrogen gas. More dangerous than gasoline fumes… I think…

Think it smells fine, and I do keep the console open when charging so that should take care of that. Not sure why mine doesn’t have it. Most of the boats I see have some sort of vent. Thanks for the info. If I get bored one day and need a little project I will add them. If I can’t find the time I won’t stress. Thanks again, everyone’s advice is always appreciated.

Note that you are charging your battery(ies) any time your engine is running. …to some extent… unless your using more power than your motor produces…

Didn’t think about that. I was thinking of when I charge my trolling motor after a day on the water. Couldn’t hurt to put them in…

You can install them just for peice of mind.

when underway, there is alot of air moving in the console without the vents
thats why it never stays really dry in there
that being said, it couldnt hurt

If you have room, a vent at the bottom and one on top will promote natural ventilation. Of course, place them where they are not going to get a lot of spray or hosed down when washing.
