Wow… Just Wow… Ok So some of you know Austin, he is the Maintenance guy who was deployed with me and I taught him to fly fish over in Iraq… I bragged and bragged about reds OTF at the Ville and since we have been back I have been trying to get him on a refish OTF, (off the fly, on a spinning rod, with a net… ANYWAY I wanted him to catch one) since MAY… Today we struck Paydirt!!! We arrived at the Ville… 2 hours before high… got out to the flat I was hoping would have fish and low and behold we saw 25 tails in the first 5 minutes… I had a rather LARGE red spook, run toward my kayak and hit it so hard he knocked my yak up on one side and there was a distinct THUMP as he hit me  … AWESOME!!!   We bailed out of the boats and i had a fly in the mouth of a red in about 10 minutes… got a little trigger happy and pulled the fly away and the fish spooked… Austin was working around the left side and casting at fish but no luck… I moved down the flat and saw yet another tail… got the fly perfectly out there and WHAM he dove on it and took off… Again I was a little amped up and horsed him a little and SNAP… and my day was pretty much done… I got a few more shots at a few but no more takers… I went 0 for 2 today BUT… I dragged Austin over and showed him where to start puttin the sneak on… I saw another tail and started movin in and I hear “WHOO HOOOOOOOO FISH ON!!!” but it sounds like a little kid… I look back and there is Austin, rod bent in half and dancin around… He fought it like a pro and finally nabbed the little sucker… 20" red and a pretty fish all around! This is Austins First Redfish, 1st Salt fish OTF, First Red OTF, First Grass Bass and ALL on the fly he tied himself!!! MAN … what an AWESOME day… Here is Austin and his prize
