VHF Question

When you install a new DSC VHF radio and input the Subscriber number that you get from the government, how does the radio store the number in memory when the radio is turned off??? Just got to thinking, what will happen if I turn the battery switch to off, also. Does the radio have an internal battery like on a laptop?

I’m not sure if it has an internal battery, but probably so, considering that my radio always knows the date and time when I turn it on. Not sure if the MMC is stored in RAM and doesn’t need power. In any case, it’s OK to turn off the battery switch. It won’t loose programming information. In fact, my Standard specifically says that once the MMC is programmed that it’s there for life, and you can’t change it without sending the unit back to the factory. wWhich leads me to believe it’s stored in a non-volatile hard memory of some type.

Yeah Cracker! Sometimes I just like to know how things work! I knew it wasn’t anything I had to worry about but you know the (inquiring minds want to know) stuff. I looked at my book and can’t find any mention of a battery. My radio has to be sent back to the factory to change it also. Maybe it does write to the drive, as read only!

Non-volatile memory. It’s an electronic chip in the unit.
