Just bought a brand new Cobia 220 Center and need to install a VHF radio (wasn’t paying the dealer to do it) My boat has the hard T-top.
I was thinking about getting a Garmin 100i for the radio with an 8’ antenna. Any thoughts or suggestions? Didn’t know if this was to much overkill or if it’s good. I’m wanting to take it offshore on good days.
I do not believe in overkill. My 27 ft center console came with 2 hardwired VHF radios. I also keep a battery operated VHF plus a Delorme satellite communication handheld
Thanks jghall and SouthernWake!! I’m glad to hear the installation part is easy. Haven’t messed around with this type of thing before and been looking at YouTube videos and it seems pretty straightforward.
I bought a Cobia 220 CC last fall. Just FYI, the dealer installed a Garmin 110 VHF with a 4’ digital antenna. Hope you enjoy the boat. I have all of 12 hours on mine because of the stupid weather.
Keep in mind when selecting an antenna they are designed to send radio waves at different angles. Just mentioning because sometime the obvious is overlooked. Nice vessel too.
ALSO, MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY INSTALL THE END ON THE COAX. MOST VHF PERFORMANCE ISSUE WE SEE ARE BECAUSE THE ADAPTER WASNT INSTALLED PROPERLY.
