Heading to Myrtle beach with the family Aug 11-18,We will be staying at Myrtle Beach State Park, camping. I am wanting to bring my boat down and do some fishing out of MI, but I dont have a vhf radio, Should I order one from wally world or is there some one local that will have something reasonably priced in stock? I am in upstate and havent seen anything local to buy here. Installation not a problem I can handle that part. Thanks

How far off shore are you planning on going ? A cell phone works well out to about 12 mi.
Definately not that Far. Most likely 3-5 miles maybe. That all depends on weather etc. I will be in Starcraft Holiday 21 ft. What about a hand held? I understand I wouldnt be able to call back to shore most likely but I would be able to call nearby boats!
Absolutely get a VHF, even a handheld.

You never know when Murphy will show up . . . . . get a handheld for EVERY trip you take in your boat, not just for this one. Having two ways to call for help is better than one, and certain needed if you have none.
Went ahead and spent 225.00 on a fixed mount radio and a cheap Shakespeare antenna at west marine. They had their model radio on sale for 119 so I got it. Does anyone else have their model that can say wether it is worth using?
