Monitor 16 if you only have one vhf. You may end up with a call you can make a difference in people’s lives. But many people use 68.

Agree with Sellsfish, this ain’t a fishing report. But to answer the question, most modern radios can be set to scan 2 or more channels. I usually keep mine scanning 16 and 68, unless I’ve made arrangements to meet somebody on a different channel. If I’m in a shipping channel I also monitor 9 and 13.
