They fish with wallet, for sharks, s h a r k s. They aren’t worth even badgering with. Nice fish and glad got use light tackle so a fun fight
Some boys are just like that. Not their fault, I’d blame the parents for raising them that way.
I find it comically ironic that you’re telling me not to comment on your gear or read your posts after I specifically remember you saying “why such a heavy rig? Going for a 20 footer” and “caught 1 on Saturday same size on folly on spinning tackle. 80 pound leader” on my Sullivan Island Lemon shark from 6/24. I’m just bringing up points besides the obvious ones why heavier gear could have its advantages. The bottom line is lighter gear equals a better fight for the angler but also means more stress on the shark, that’s fact, not opinion. For some people such as yourself, the long fight is important. For others, like me, it’s about sustaining shark populations through tagging programs to ensure my grandkids will have the opportunity to fish for these wonderful creatures. I’m sorry you took my post personal, and your catch was definitely impressive.
As far as the shark and removing from the water. The recommendation to leave the shark in the water while dehooking is primarily for anglers shark fishing from boats. In order to safely dehook any large shark the shark must be removed at least partially from the water. The important part is having a plan and a group of at least two people to dehook, measure, tag, etc in order to promptly get the shark back in the water. They say a shark won’t live if it’s out of the water for longer then 5 minutes.
Follyfisher i caught my first shark a couple of weeks ago on Penn Fierce 8000. It put up a helluva fight and lets be real, that part of the thrill. I pulled mine into the shallows where he was submerged enough to still get water in his gills as the waves came but not enough for him to take off in the water.
So your saying, 2 people fish for Different reasons? No way! Senpai you teach me so much knowledge. Some fish to kill/eat, some sport, and some for research.
Its okay bro… Its okay… I love sharks… Working at the Aquarium around experts… talking to PHD holding biologist whom i know personally. I think ill listen to them and the articles ive read that say the opposite thing your telling me. I think ill listen to them and not some arm chair biologist on a fishing forum. Thanks bro!
Lol
Even researchers have trouble knowing for sure the effects of catch and release on shark. Without a blood test being taken at the time of catch, and tagged to follow the shark after. Since no one on this forum does this, the only way to insure they all survive is not to catch them at all. Everything else is speculation.
So fishing for something that your not gonna eat is bad/pointless. More at 11 cotton!
Them red necks with those white socks and rowdy sneakers don’t care about the shark they just want some(tons)of beer, an interesting fight, and a picture with a shark because he’s a big boy now AND he has his big boy sneakers on!!! Team Aquatic Therapy, get your therapy else where, not at our wildlife’s expense.
post some footage when you hook onto a real shark and get spooled newb

You could make this same argument against any kind of fishing. Everything we fish for, from lowly whiting to trout, flounder, or shark are predators that have a valuable place in the ecosystem. We all do it for the sport of it. None of us are doing it to put food on our tables, although that can be a happy byproduct. Just my two cents.
Sorry “dude” Aquatic doesn’t need any type of alcohol to have fun. Don’t drink here. We aren’t the ones you will find on the beach acting stupid drinking beer and referring to each other as “bo” every sentence. If someone can show definite proof of the best gear or method to use in catch and release fishing we will be more than happy to either change gear or quit. the study and conservation of our marine ecosystem is highest priority while fishing to us. This conversation had gone south.
Its okay man go back and look at his post history. This is the same guy who thought a SandBar was a Bull Shark. He has Marine Biology experience. LOL. Loser.

Since when is an 8 Ft Tiger Shark NOT a REAL Shark?
Missed ID on a shark? Probably not the first to do that on a species know For being hard to identify. Keep making yourself sound like an idiot.
Sharks are not hard to identify…lol. Google is hard. Lazy drunk redneck excuse lol
A fair fight well won. Good on ya!
Im sure i could find more if i kept digging… But Imnotfishy claims using Spinning Gear is bad for the Sharks… Yet its okay for him to use them? Hmmm…

I use both of them every time I shark fish. If I had to choose one I would choose the 10500 just because it holds more line and could handle bigger fish.

I second the Spinfisher, I have a 8500 and a 10500. Highly recommend.

Thanks guys…
@dparker677 My spinfisher 8500 handled it no problem, very happy with it.
