Got out around 10 and fished all day!!!. I got lucky when i got there and ended up getting a net full of small haden right by the road before i went out. I paddled for what seemed like forever looking for reds and finally found them in less the 12inches of water. They were feeding all the way up to the tree line. I was able to fish the flat for three hours before the water receeded too much. Fish were everywhere, i had atleast a dozen follow my gulp right back to me. A few of them even took the bait when they saw me and then tried to take off!!! I ended up catching 11 or 12 before i had to go back into the bay. It was amazing watching them feed. For the next several hours i caught sharks and rays, but for the life of me i could not find the reds. I also saw a dolphin making huge splashes with its tail in less than 2 feet of water. I was able to get really close to him, but i backed of in fear of him becoming threatened. As the water started to come back up I loaded up with shrimp and headed back out to the grass.
The water was so thick with mullet that they were jumping everywhere while i was paddling. I had several hit the boat, a couple landed in it, and i was fish smacked twice!!! I found the reds busting bait on the edge of the grass as the sun went down and even a couple tailing ontop of the oyster mounds. I was able to get close enough to one that i reached out and touched its tail before it took off. I managed to catch 3 more reds and one big black drum before i was out of light. If i would have had a lamp i would have stayed, but then if i had a lamp the fish prob. wouldnt have been there.
Does anybody ever catch flounder back there? I know i saw them busting the surface, but i have never caught one back there. I saw beds in some of the sandier areas. If anyone has caught them back there, how? It was an absolutely amazing day and can not wait to do it again.
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. </font id=“size2”>
