I purchased a vintage row boat recently and want to put a trolling motor on it. That requires titling and registration. It has never before had a motor and so never was titled. My problem is that I need to show its history to DNR and give them a serial number. There is no number anywhere on the boat so it may have predated the requirement or was a kit boat. Is anyone familiar with these boats or how to register them?
If I am not mistaken, you can treat it as a “homemade” boat and they can assign a HIN which you would them have to put on the stern. I may be wrong but I remember a similar situation sometime in the past. Or maybe I am completely wrong. My wife would probably select that option.

Thanks Doug,
I was thinking that kit boats that could be finished by an individual; then it could be considered as homemade and may be why there is no number. DNR also wants pictures of a homemade boat along with a copy of the bill of sale for the materials used in construction. Then they send an inspector to look at the boat and make sure it is as described. Was hoping someone on here might have a little knowledge about the process.
If you can’t find any help at DNR, let me know. I have a couple of friends there that may know what direction to point you.
