Virginia Ave boat ramp

Does anybody know anything about the boat ramp under 526 on VA Ave? Just went by there and it looks like theres not enough water to launch at low tide…just realized I probably posted this on the wrong forum:smiley:

The public ramp has about three feet at low tide but an old railraod bridge is only about three feet above the water at high tide. You can get 22’ boats in and out pretty easily if you time it right.

I put in there all the time. If your not afraid to scratch the boat its okay, I have an aluminum boat. I’ve seen a couple of center console boats at high tide waiting for the tide to go down from the railroad trestle. I’ve heard it not the safest place to leave your stuff but I’ve never had a problem.

Thanks, I have heard that too. I doubt I would put in there at night for that reason, but who knows. I’m new to salt water fishing, just looking for places to put in.

The sign says they are closed at night. Also see this thread, I friend of mine signed up this time last year.

Thanks, I look into that. Do you know if you still have to know a current member or not?

If your looking for a good place right around the same area to put in the cooper river bushey park is not to far from there and it seems pretty safe for your truck as well.

In response to the knowing another member, he didn’t.

Ok cool, thanks fellas.

i have a 17 ft cc key west low low you’ll scrape oyster beds by the bank if you pull up to the dock, water is pretty shallow but doable, when you go under the tressle stay wide there is a mud flat that comes out of the water on right, the rest of the creek is about 3-4 ft in middle, but after crossing under the bridge its shallow until the water changes color, high tide that tressle is low but you can lay the poles down and get under it. lots of concrete by the ramp do not try and beach your boat, either tie off and climb up the dock or jump out and walk your boat up to the landing, little to no current, personally id raise your motor and troll out to the river its only about 300 yards to the cooper, at low of course, high tide don’t matter.

Thanks, I’m new to the salt water side. Trying to find a easy and not so crowded place to launch.

I put in this landing all the time. I stay fishing goose creek but headed to clouter after work today trying new territory. As for the landing I haven’t had any problems with my stuff being messed with.

Yes, that pole in the middle is a killer … 2 bends down from the trestle. Hidden at mid to high tide, but lurking beneath the surface.

Thanks, Captain Ross

The Va.ave ramp is located on Filburn creek. The mouth of Filburn at one time held lot’s of flounder. Electrric chicken slow retrive works well. I would not eat any fish from that area, catch and release.

why not eat any fish from that area? just wondering for future reference.i fish around there all the time.

Aj

Google Earth that area and you’ll understand why. You can visibly see the pollution being dumped into the Cooper.

When they open the gate for discharge from the paper mill clear water turns to the color of coffee. But they are not polluting the waters and there is a Santa Clause.

Anyone had any issues with the MP’s from the NWS launching in that area? I know heading up the Cooper and fishin Goose Creek is right smack dab in NWS property, can you fish there or will you get shut down? I know you must be allowed to traffic this because the other end backs up to those houses with boats off Yeamans Hall Rd. but can you stop and fish/crab?
