Virginia Boondoggle...some pics and video

This past weekend was the Boondoggle in Virginia, at First Landing State Park - me, DDOlson & Scubastan were amongst the approximately 40 kayak anglers who participated.

From the first evening, fishing Broad Bay…DDOlson and his wife caught reds - I got skunked! Just couldn’t get them to eat…

The next day - Launching at Lynnhaven Bay at the boat ramp - there was a small canoe/kayak launch area - lots of plastic hit the water that morning…I saw many different kayak brands and models being fished out of, and I even tried the new Native Slayer. As for the fishing, I lost two flounder at the kayak (they had the tails of my jigs), and a pinfish. I fished jigs all day…

Sunday was much cooler - chilly from a front that came through on Saturday night - with the rain to go along with it. DD and I decided to find a sheltered place out of the howling north wind - so we went to Rainey’s Gut, just off of Broad Bay…here’s the launch.

and we caught some fish…I ended up with an inshore slam…here’s one of DD’s “puppy drum” (what they call smaller-sized reds in that part of the country)

I made a short video of my two best reds of the day - http://youtu.be/yoNs_RaaIzo

I really enjoyed the trip - it was fun to meet and fish with a lot of different kayak anglers. But I’m glad to be back home, to more familiar waters!

What did you think of the Slayer? Were you in the 12 or the 14.5?

Awesome Lewis, looks very nice.

Dave it was the 12’ one…I like the front cargo area. I didn’t get to stand in it, but it felt very stable. I imagine the 14’ one is comparable to the Cuda - the small one reminded me of the Coosa - even the way it sat in the water…
