Hit up the South River in Virgina yesterday morning at about 630 AM. It was 27 degrees when I started fishing. Pretty dumb of me to try and fish when it was that cold. All of the eyes on my rod would freeze up every 5 or 6 casts. I didn’t hook into a trout until about 9 or 10 AM. But once it warmed up a little bit the bit was on! I ended up catching 12 Rainbows. 1 was 22"!!! Water levels are finally where they need to be. If anyone is into trout fishing head up to VA b/c the fishing has been great lately! Here are some pics.
Great pics, the trout love the cold and see far less idiots like us. what were they feeding on, I think I see a half eaten bugger pokin out? awesome, thats a great trout, worth every frozen finger huh?
Looks like good fishing.
I headed up to Stone Mountain near Sparta, NC the day af Christmas. Clear, cold and ill low water. Only managed 3 trout plus one break off all day.Good news was 2 were 12" bows and one as a 24" brown. I never sawe breakoff, but it left a wake like a speedboat at tore downstream.
Actually it is in Waynesboro VA, it is off of I-64 about 20min west from Charlottesville VA.
I caught all of the trout on golden retrievers or crystal buggers. Both are basically wolly buggers…bead headed. I had to vary the presentation I mostly did a dead drift or very slow retrieve.
