Visiting angler looking for a good time...

Hey guys, my name is Mike and I’ll be traveling to Charleston on Monday and will be the for the next 3 weeks or so. I live in southeast VA (Chesapeake) and am an avid fisherman. I have been a member of Tidewater Kayak Anglers Association for the past 4 years and if my rental has cross bars, I’ll be bringing my kayak (Hobie Quest). What I’m looking for is either a kayak buddy to show me some water (I looked in the kayak section of the forum and there seems to be a glitch in my browser or I would have posted there), or if anyone has room on their boat for some inshore action, id love to tag along. I’m also not against some freshwater fun, I imagine the bass are ramping up for fall down there the same as up here. I’ll be working 40hr weeks, so I’ll have evenings and weekends free. I’ll gladly pay for gas and whatever someone may want to charge, but none of my coworkers are fisherman and I don’t see the need to pay $400 for a 4 hour charter trip to catch slot sized reds. I appreciate it guys! Thanks!

Mike, check out the LowCountry Kayak Anglers on facebook, I bet someone will meet up with you. If you end up needing a yak, we rent them over at Time Out Sports in Mt. Pleasant. Even if the rental does not have a rack, we have some stuff for you!

Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely check them out!!

Mike, check your PM.

Thanks Seasick! Got it and replied.

So I’m letting two of the other guys coming down with me get the rental and I’m going to drive separately in my old (hopefully) trusty Volvo wagon, so my kayak will be with me. Fingers crossed this 300k mile beast make it the 7 hours with no issues. Ha!

i apologizes for that. i only read the title

Your not sorry Pee! When I first saw the Subject Line, I was thinking Gentleman’s Club! But I see he is getting some help, from good people with clean minds!

I have to admit, the title had me thinking…not homo though. Pea, something you want to say??

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

Don’t go picking on The Pod, DF! That’s my job:wink:

I would never pick on Pea, just wondering.

I thought the same thing when I read the title  I hear a visitor might find a good time at some of the clubs in N. Charleston

No homo?! Pshh. All homo. Me talking about fishing is just how us southeast VA guys segue into ManDates…

Itsallgood man, we’re a bunch of comedians here. Hope you find you a good time!

welcome to the board mikedeee. you seem like a good sport

do what dolphinD said.

Toobusy on here is an expert local yak fisherman and guide. message him.

those $400 guides will quickly and drastically shorten your learning curve for this area. whatever you know from up there may or may not transfer to this area. there are good guides on this board. you might be able to split a trip with others.

go to haddrells point tackle in mt p or west ashley, buy some trouteye 3/16 oz and zman minnowz in pearl or any of the silver/blue shad colors. talk to them about what you’re trying to do, esp Mike Jr in Mt Peasant or Simon in West Ashley. they will help you.

I get that you’re looking for spottails. till winter, the trout are ez pickings. IMO you need a trouteye-Zman rig, a doa under a popping cork, and a zarasppoook jr. work trouteye zman in varying retrieves on long grass points in the main river or icw. throw a zaraspook jr at those same points in low light early am late afternoon. you’ll catch plenty of trout at mid to high tide. focus on creekmouths and points

at mid tide-falling low, work the grass lines along the main river and the backs of feeder creeks. you’ll sight plenty of spottails. you’ll spook a bunch and they’ll lock up, but you’ll figure out where they hold. they will readily eat that same zman rig.

as you paddle between spots, troll that zman behind you.

the launches i fish have good kayak water near the ramp. you don’t need to go far

i am a chronic liar. don’t believe a word of this. that guide tip is gold though

avoid 23sailfish. you’ll thank me later

Well I’m about 2 hours out. Decided to let the other guys have the rental, so I’ve got my old trusty Volvo wagon with the yak on top. I greatly appreciate y’all’s help, and will probably stop by Haddrells before my 5p phone conference to pick up a temp non resident license. Staying at the Homewood instead of the Candlewood now. Still in N Charleston somewhere. First time I’ve car topped a boat on the interstate, usually I strap it in the bed of the truck. Not bad other than the droning of the straps, even up to 85mph.

Gotta love a full size wagon. 3 rods up to 7’ in the overhead not touching front or back glass. Perfect.

Slick rig, have fun fishing.

Just checked into the hotel, while unloading my stuff the hotel van driver jokingly asked if I was giving my kayak away, which struck up a conversation about local fishing. He told me about Haddrells as well, and mentioned a couple creeks to check out. Told me to go early in the morning on Sunday because everyone would be in church and id have the water to myself. #128513; nice guy!
