Hey guys I live in charlotte and am visiting over memorial day weekend. I am taking a friend who has never been saltwater kayak fishing, only freshwater and would love to get him on some fish. I am good with a cast net or using artificial, I just don’t know any good/safe launches over such a hectic weekend. Thanks for any help! -Thomas
I am new to Kayak fishing as well, but if your looking for the safest spots to fish from with little boat traffic I would say Paradise Island or Copahee Sound. Lowcountry Kayak Anglers are doing a meet and great Saturday May 30th at the Folly Island boat landing as well.
Thank you very much for the info reaper. I will be coming back down on a family vacation in a few weeks, but this weekend I am taking a fiend for his first time.
Shem Creek, is your best bet for no traffic and easy parking:imp: You can’t possibly fall out without landing on another boat of some kind!
Thanks for the tip easy. I have launched there once before. not sure how to post a pic yet, but I bought 2 bags of white gulp shrimp with white jig heads, some yellow curly tails, and my circle hooks. I have a cast net and bait tank if I find the bait And can get out of the yak to throw.
Haha I could be wrong but I think Easy is being sarcastic, Memorial Day weekend will be crazy with boat / kayak / paddleboarders.
Reaper I wasn’t quite sure how to take his comment (I wasn’t going to try there either way), but with the tides I’m seeing this weekend it looks perfect for copahee
wildspinx, I was just funning ya! Shem Creek, is a Zoo all the time.
I haven’t fished Copahee yet, just can’t get the tides to line up with when I want to go. Good luck to y’all, hope you catch some good fish while your down visiting. A friend and I are going to attempt paddling out to the jetties this Sunday (weather permitting) hopefully we will catch some dinner on this go around! Hit me up when you come back down I will see if I can sneak out for a morning to do some fishing with you!
Reaper that sounds great! I would volunteer to come fish the jetties with yall, but it being my friends first time in the salt I don’t want to overdue it.
On another note, does anyone know if Bowens island rd is a public launch?
it is public but they charge a dollar or two to launch there - would be a good bet considering the public ramps will be a nightmare from friday til tues
That’s what I was thinking. It will either be copahee or Bowens for sure. I am staying in summerville so it is the same distance to both.
Was a tough day today. my friend caught one small trout and a stingray. I got skunked. We were at copahee. We are going to paradise island tomorrow hopefully with better luck.
Nice meeting you at Copahee launch. Wind was the winner yesterday.
Nice meeting you too lint. We went back out today and did a little better. Two keeper trout 16 and 18" and a 15" flounder.
