I’m flying to Edisto by way of Charleston in a couple of weeks. I have a backpacking 5-piece, 6.5 foot medium weight rod and a couple of decent reels. I’m concerned that my rod won’t hold up to larger spots and trout. My question: Would I be better off taking a chance on what I have or maybe buying a “disposable” rod at a big box store once I get there? Or, are there places that loan gear for a week or so?
When will you be at Edisto? I live there a good bit of the year. Can loan you a rod and reel if I am down there when you are, might be able to get together for a trip or two. I have a inshore and offshore boat.
It will work- you would be surprised what you can land on a med outfit. Worst thing could happen is a breakoff - just rerig and get back after them. I use 10# mono and 20# fluro leader. Plenty for a trout.
Inshore you shouldn’t need more than 15lb main line braid and 20lb leader.
I fish the above with Medium Light fast and Medium fast rods with no problems.
Your setup should be OK.
