voltage converter gone bad

so the battery has not been charging while the motor is cranked and I think I discovered why today…is this the voltage converter in a Mercury 60?

notice the char on the left side…

and char on the oil filter…

don’t know what caused it to go, but it did a number on the inside of the cowling and foam as well…

how easy a fix is this?

Mercurypartsexpress.com has schematics and parts diagrams of all thier motors, just type in serial number and it will bring your exact motor up.

thanks Chris, would that cause the motor not to charge the battery when cranked?

The Morris Island Lighthouse www.savethelight.org

yes
also know that the stator will probably fail very soon
does your tach still work?
