Voodoo Shrimp - What am I doing wrong?

OK so I can’t take it anymore. Everybody catches trout this time of year with voodoo and I haven’t caught jack, ever, for like 3 years, on one of them. DOAs, I love. And of course the smarta-- will say “then stick w/ DOAs,” but it’s fun to diversify and to have a second shrimp go-to when the DOA isn’t producing… On a cork over oysters and along the grass, nada. Do I need to work it like a DOA? Or is the magic in doing nothing? Bounce along the bottom? this is the only soft plastic I really struggle with (other than picking right lengths) and I’d appreciate any tips… I definitely have a tendency to work soft plastics a little fast, but even when I work that thing at barely any speed, I get nowhere… Help a brother out?

So have you caught multiple fish on a DOA and then tried to fish the Voodoo right behind it with same set up and it just not produce fish?

No, surprisingly, I have not tried that – when the DOA is working I usually stick with it, but that’s a good idea… for me, DOA is most productive on a float and that’s usually when I’m catching fish with it. Thanks for the idea.

The voodoo shrimp sinks too fast and at the wrong angle for my taste. Also, if left in your tackle box too long, that type of plastic will “take a set” and won’t have the same action. At 7 dollars per 2, it’s just not worth it to me. I am scratching my head though as they WILL catch trout comparably if fished 3-5 feet under a popping cork. I will stick to good ole DOAs, TKOs, and KillerDillers.
