Does anyone have any experience with these older Yamaha carb motors? I have two the have been sitting for 6 years and I’m having an issue holding rpm over 4K. They act like they are starving for fuel. Mostly port side motor. Tried pumping ball while running and no success. Mechanic supposedly rebuilt 2 lift pumps on motors. I’m trying to get rid of these motors so I can’t put a bunch of money into them.

Thanks

what year are they?

if i remember correctly, those are the carbed motors that actually have a small injection system to assist with cold start.
easy test to determine if its a fuel issue… 2 person job… run it at high rpms with the cowling off, and give it a little extra fuel via a spray can of starting fluid or a squeeze bottle, etc.
dont hold extra fuel fuel for more than a split second, as it doesnt have extra lubrication. its just to test to see if RPMS increase.
if they do, its starving for fuel.
