They were feeding and hungry. Weather was perfect. Nice cool late afternoon marsh walk. My flyrod is on its way to be repaired, so I carried the spinner up there for the first time in a few years.
Caught three nice fish, upper slot. DOA shrimp was the ticket, although I’m sure they would have hit anything that moved. Missed a few more fish where I couldn’t get the shrimp down in the grass enough, kept getting hung up in some of the thicker grass. Saw easily 40 fish, perhaps more. The wind started to scare me up a bit at the ramp at first, but I’m glad I went. Walked a brand new (to me) flat and saw good fish and caught fish. I’d consider that successful. Lots of cruisers on the flat mixed in with a couple of aggresive tailers. Good luck if you go tonight, I can’t. It should be incredible again.
The 9wt is on its way back to TFO for repair…I’m taking the 5wt out today. There’s either going to be an epic fish story or a broken 5wt. I just have to be disciplined and only throw it at small fish…not sure if I can do that or not!!
