Wader Question

There was a recent post about the best type of waders to buy for Winter yak fishing. If I am not mistaken, it appeared the nod went to the “breathable” type vs. neoprene. To further muddy the issue, what do most of you use regarding the foot part, the kind with the stocking foot or the built in boot? It seems the stocking foot would be preferable but would like some veteran opinions.

Thanks, I am trying to get all the right gear for Winter fishing.

Stocking foot waders will require you to use some type of boot, or shoe to protect bootie section. Great for trout fishing where you want felt soles, but for the coast- built in boot breathables are great. You can use them for duck hunting, fishing, etc… Have used gore waders for years, and would never go back to neoprene. When it’s a bit warmer, use light nylon pants under. If it’s real cold, fleece pants will insulate and keep you toasty.

I bought a pair redhead waders 3 years ago for 90 bucks at basspro, they arnt camo but they get the job done. they are breathable with the built in foot. i wear them duck hunting, kayak fishing, and the cold nights bait shrimping. check them out

I have the breathable stocking foot waders. I read a few forums before deciding, and decided against the boot-type because of several comments that the boots were too bulky for kayaking. I bought a pair of flats boots (about $30) to wear over my waders. Buy two sizes larger than your shoe size and it should fit fine.

The breathable waders are nice because they aren’t too hot with a base layer if it’s not that cold out, but you can wear fleece bottoms underneath if it’s really cold out. I bought some fleece pj bottoms at Target for about $11 that work great.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
