Anyone heard any news on the cobia and wahoo limit. I heard there going down to one per boat.
Im pretty sure it is 2 per person per boat
1 per person in florida

Right now, wahoo is two per person per day. Cobia is the same.

Yeah I know that but i think they are talkingabout changing it
They are not law YET, but the process has started. Basically, you guys have to show up to the meetings to tell them to “go to hell”…
Proposed changes:
From SAFMC:
Included in it were proposed chages to bag limits:
Wahoo… 2 Per Vessel
Cobia … 1 Per Vessel
Dolphin… 9 per Person

Talk about a kick in the balls.
Been thinking that myself - anyone know the optimal trolling speed for lionfish?

I honestly think 2 per person without a cap on the boat is to many. We have 8-10 people on our boat at times, and does anyone really need to keep 16-20 wahoo?? The problem is that their is never any compromise. How about a sensible limit of 6-8?? 2 is bs, and there will be filet and release on the high seas.
Red…Have you EVER seen a recreational boat come in with 16-20 wahoo? I think the most I have ever seen here is 11, with the exception of the picture of the boat out of Bermuda with about 30. I do agree with what you are thinking, maybe a boat compromise of 10 fish, but this is how these dirty bass turds work…they target species that don’t have problems (black seabass, red porgies, wahoo, cobia) and then we feel lucky to retain some of what we always had.

I’m not an expert, but I do know that the wahoo fishing has been the best I have ever seen in my life in the past few years. We put a bunch in the boat last year on one trip, like 6-8 I can’t remember. We left them biting (through our leaders…ha ha). I totally agree with you. You can’t give them inch, because all they want is a mile.

That was a good day. From the morning “view” to the afternoon fish haul. Great day.![]()
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
wahoo- 2 per person or 10 per boat whichever is lower
cobia- 1 per person 5 per boat whichever is lower
these seem like good alternatives and a good compromise
i’m sure we’ll wind up with 1 wahoo and no cobia per boat the way things have been going.
if they enact the 1 per vessel for cobia i’ll have a string of yaks tied to my boat in beaufort.

Habit, meeting on March 15th at Palmetto Electric Community Room at New River 6:30-8 to discuss cobia regs and recent data. DIrector of SAFMC will be there. The actual public hearing will be sometime in April. Bring the masses!

Good point. What is a “boat”? Does a 3 dollar inflatable from walmart count? ![]()
