Fished the High Yield on Saturday despite the (sadly right) NE wind forecast. We worked the ledge off the outcrop 150 to 300 all day but didn’t see much life on the surface. Went 1 for 2 on the wahoo and lost the much bigger one due to a (**() hook that broke off near the barb after 20 minutes and very near the boat. Rest assured every hook of that type is going to be replaced post haste. Ran the green stick for a while and had a few massive and incredibly exciting knock downs that sent the 130 screaming but we think they were due to an under powered 150 lb breakaway line. Jumping into the chair with a 130 class reel and that much drag is super exciting.
Sunrise maybe 30 miles out. Started out nice but NE wind isn’t kind. It was nice around lunch time and sucked for a bit on the way back with 4’s that were close together.
This wahoo couldn’t handle the drag of the 50W after almost dumping it on the first run. Towards the end of the fight it surfed in like a cuda.
Big lures catch big fish. This was the smaller of the two birds for the green stick. Pretty (**() spectacular to see it in action.
The green stick in action. This is it under about half load. Amazing to see and scary when it goes POW!
Wahoo lost due to hook failure. I don’t want to talk about it.
Got down to the braid on this bad boy once.
The chair is required for this setup.

Not a great picture but this is the first dolphin we caught. We didn’t focus on them but there seemed to be plenty. They are out there for sure but mostly scattered kind of like early April dolphin. Global warming?

Jordan, wasn’t a jobu big-game hook was it?
Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

Don’t know the make; wasn’t my rig. It was an adequate hook for dolphin but certainly not the beastly wahoo hooks used on high speed rigs. It had started to straighten and you could see it broke off at the barb.

Curious, what dumped the 130 if I may ask?
Sorry, maybe I should ask what do you think dumped the 130?
I was wondering the same and thanks for asking- That bird teaser was massive and judging by the amount of bend/pressure on that green stick, could a decent fish hitting that line pop it out the clip and then the crazy drag associated with that bird teaser alone not pull alot of line of the 130?? possibly making it seem like a huge fish but not necessarily the case? these are only thoughts/questions as I have never seen the green stick in action or that setup- what was drag setting on the 130? cool story either way
We don’t know what caused the two big knock downs on the green stick. It could have been a failure of the break away line or a hit that pulled off. Either way, whenever the break away line goes, the bird will start to dump the 130 until you back off the throttle even with the 130 locked down. It uses a 400lb main line so it doesn’t hold that much.
